초록
본 연구는 ‘-어지다’의 의미 기능을 분석하여 기술한 것이다. ‘-어지다’는 선행 용언의 성질과 통어적인 특징에 근거하여 크게 <상태 변화 출현><심리적인 변화 출현> <사태 출현>으로 분류했다. 이 3가지 의미는 상호관련성이 있고, <변화 출현>이라는 의미로 통합할 수 있다. ‘어지다’는 태의 범주에서 들여다보면 피동보다는 자동과 밀접한 관계에 있고, 상의 범주에서 들여다보면 기동상이라는 기능을 지니는 경우가 많다는 것을 지적했다. 자동사화 기능과 기동상이라는 기능은 상호 배타적이지 않아서 그 2기능은 한 문장 안에서 동시에 읽을 수 있는 경우가 많다. 그리고 그 2기능은 <변화 출현>이라는 의미와 잘 어울리는 기능들이다.

A Study on the Meaning and Function of “-어지다”

Abstract
This study aims to analyze and describe the meaning and function of “-어지다.” Based on the antecedent component and grammatical characteristics, “-어지다” can be divided into three categories: the appearance of state change, the appearance of psychological change, and the appearance of affairs. These three meanings are inter-continuous, and they can be summed up as the appearance of change. From the category of voice , “-어지다” has a closer relationship with the intransitive sentence than passive sentence . From the viewpoint of aspect, on the other hand, the researcher found that it has the inchoative function in many ways. The so-called intransitive and inchoative functions do not repel to each other. They can be utilized in the same sentence in many ways. In addition, the study indicates that the two functions can be matched with the meaning of “the appearance of change”.
